Regional Broadband Consortium point of view In October 1992, E2BN invited schools and commercial organisations to bid for funding to develop broadband demonstrator content for E2BN. Local heroes was one 13 successful projects selected. The project was selected because it demonstrated compliance with many of the criteria that E2BN wanted to see included in the bids, in particular:
- The project involved of a number of schools working together in the creation of a resource, which would relate directly to area of the curriculum.
- It involved expertise and input from teachers to provide materials that would be of practical use in lessons as well as of general interest to others visiting the site.
- The project saw the pooling of expertise from local libraries and museums as well as local schools and the commercial sector to provide a rich set of resources that showed how archive and other resources could be used in an interesting and lively way.
- It provided a framework resource that could be replicated or added to by other schools to promote the sharing of knowledge and expertise
- The project also involved pupils in the development of the materials, promoting the use of digital assets and ICT skills within the curriculum and providing a participatory was for pupils to learn more about local history and share this with other pupils.
